Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 9, 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how Smart Bookmark Capture ("the Extension"),
a Chrome browser extension, handles user data. By installing or using the Extension,
you agree to the practices described in this policy.
1. What Data We Collect
The Extension collects the following data solely to provide its core functionality:
-
Webpage screenshots (Website content):
When you trigger a capture, the Extension takes a screenshot of the currently active tab.
-
Page URL and title (Web history):
The URL and title of the captured page are used to create a bookmark and assist AI categorization.
-
User settings:
Optional proxy server URL, API key, and bookmark folder name are stored locally on your device only.
2. How We Use Your Data
- Screenshots and page metadata are sent to our proxy server (Cloudflare Workers) solely to request AI-based categorization via the Google Gemini API.
- Screenshots are not stored on our servers. They are processed in transit and discarded immediately after the API response is returned.
- Bookmark data and screenshots saved to your device are stored locally using Chrome's built-in storage and your local file system only.
- We do not use your data for advertising, analytics, or any purpose unrelated to bookmark organization.
3. Data Sharing
- We do not sell, trade, or transfer your data to third parties.
- Screenshots are temporarily transmitted to the Google Gemini API for classification. Google's use of this data is governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
- No personally identifiable information is collected or transmitted.
4. Data Storage
- All bookmark history, settings, and saved screenshots are stored locally on your device.
- You can delete all locally stored data at any time by removing the Extension from Chrome.
5. Permissions Used
- activeTab / tabs: To access the current tab's URL, title, and capture a screenshot upon user action.
- bookmarks: To create and organize bookmark folders automatically.
- downloads: To save captured screenshots to your local device in an organized folder structure.
- storage: To save user preferences and bookmark history locally on your device.
- notifications: To inform you when a bookmark has been saved or if an error occurred.
6. Children's Privacy
This Extension is not directed at children under the age of 13.
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
7. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time.
Changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
Continued use of the Extension after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the new policy.
